Vattakotai Fort.

Vattakotai is a place that one can visit on their way to Kanyakumari,majority miss this beautiful fort.

I reached the fort by 11am .This fort is about 1.5km off from the main road,I preferred walking to this fort after I get down from the bus,a gentle breeze and shower had made my walk even more enjoyable.There is no ticket or any entry fee to see this monument.

One can see from a distance the great structure proudly facing the ocean,I was really surprised to see that it was beautifully maintained by the archaeological department of India,climbing to the top of the fort we can have a splendid view of the horizon and the infinite blue velvet spreading before us.

Vattakottai was constructed under the supervision of Captain Eustachius De Lannoy, an ex-Dutch naval officer of the Dutch East India company, who became commander of the Travancore Army (the very army that defeated him in the Battle of Colachel) in the 18th century.
